Popular Nigerian TikTok creator Becca Oluwabukola, popularly known online as GRWM Becca, has shared the heartbreaking story of how her flourishing social media career allegedly led to the sudden end of her banking career.

In an emotional video that has since gone viral across social media platforms, the content creator recounted the difficult moment she was informed that she had to resign from her job immediately because of issues surrounding the content she posted online.

According to Becca, she had dedicated years of her life to building a successful banking career while also pursuing her passion for creating entertaining and relatable videos on TikTok. However, despite her efforts to balance both worlds, she eventually found herself forced to choose between her corporate career and her growing online presence.

“I was asked to resign immediately.”

The shocking revelation has generated massive reactions online, with thousands of Nigerians debating whether employers should have the authority to discipline or dismiss workers over their personal social media activities.

How It All Started

Becca explained that her journey into content creation began in 2018, long before TikTok became one of the biggest social media platforms in Nigeria.

At the time, she was working as a customer service representative in a commercial bank while nurturing her passion for creating lifestyle and comedy content.

Because employees were prohibited from using their phones during working hours, she developed a strict routine to ensure her videos never interfered with her job.

She revealed that she often arrived at the office as early as 6:30 a.m., long before official resumption time, just to film and upload content before beginning the day’s work.

According to her, she always ensured that her responsibilities at the bank came first and never intentionally violated workplace rules.

The First Warning That Changed Everything

Things reportedly took a dramatic turn in 2022 after Becca uploaded a light-hearted TikTok video joking about receiving a ₦10,000 salary increment.

Although she intended the video purely for entertainment, the bank’s management reportedly viewed it differently.

She was immediately issued a disciplinary query for allegedly violating the institution’s social media policy.

Becca explained that she was devastated by the development, as she never imagined the post would attract such serious consequences.

Following the incident, she was suspended temporarily while the matter was investigated.

Determined to keep her job, she apologized to the management and assured them she had no intention of damaging the bank’s reputation.

Fortunately, the suspension was lifted, and she resumed work.

Promotion Gave Her Hope

Despite the disciplinary issue, Becca continued to perform diligently at work.

She disclosed that she later became a confirmed member of staff and even received another salary increase.

At that point, she believed the difficult chapter was over and that management had moved past the incident.

Meanwhile, her TikTok account continued to grow rapidly, attracting thousands of followers who loved her relatable videos, beauty content, and humorous lifestyle posts.

As her popularity increased, so did public recognition.

Unfortunately, the increased attention also meant her employer became more aware of her online activities

Another Video Sparked Fresh Trouble

According to Becca, another incident occurred after she posted an Easter-themed office vlog.

Although the video was intended to capture the festive mood at work, management reportedly considered it inappropriate.

She was once again issued a disciplinary query.

Realizing the seriousness of the situation, she immediately deleted the video and appeared before the bank’s disciplinary committee.

She apologized sincerely and promised never to create content inside the office again.

Believing the issue had been resolved, she continued her normal duties.

Sadly, that was not the end of the story.

“Becca, I Have Bad News”

About a week later, Becca was called into her manager’s office.

She said she sensed something was wrong the moment she entered.

According to her, the manager looked emotional before breaking the news.

“Becca, I have bad news.”

She recalled that her manager then informed her that the bank’s management had directed that she resign from her position immediately.

The decision reportedly came without prior notice.

The unexpected announcement left her heartbroken.

She admitted she struggled to process what was happening, especially after years of dedication to her job.

An Emotional Goodbye

Leaving the banking sector was one of the most difficult moments of Becca’s life.

She explained that she had invested years of hard work into her career and never imagined it would end in such circumstances.

Although she accepted the decision, the emotional impact stayed with her for a long time.

Her story has resonated with many young Nigerians who are trying to balance conventional careers with the opportunities presented by the digital economy.

Social Media Users React

Following the release of her video, social media platforms were flooded with reactions.

Many users sympathized with Becca, saying employers should respect workers’ personal lives provided they do not disclose confidential information or damage the company’s reputation.

Others argued that organizations have every right to enforce workplace policies, especially where an employee’s public image could affect the brand.

Some also praised Becca for remaining professional throughout the ordeal and for turning a painful experience into motivation.

From Banker to Full-Time Content Creator

Despite losing her banking job, Becca refused to give up on her dreams.

She continued creating content on TikTok, where her authenticity and relatable personality have earned her a loyal fan base.

Today, she is regarded as one of Nigeria’s fast-rising digital creators, proving that setbacks can sometimes open the door to greater opportunities.

Her journey serves as an inspiration to many aspiring creators who are pursuing their passions while navigating the realities of traditional employment.

The Bigger Conversation

Becca’s experience has reignited discussions about the relationship between social media and corporate employment.

As content creation becomes a viable career path for millions of young people, many companies are reviewing their policies regarding employees’ online activities.

Experts believe both employers and employees must strike a balance between protecting corporate interests and respecting personal freedom of expression.

For many Nigerians, Becca’s story is more than just a viral headline—it is a reflection of the changing nature of work in the digital age.

Final Thoughts

Whether you agree with the bank’s decision or not, Becca’s story highlights the challenges many professionals face while trying to build personal brands alongside traditional careers.

Her experience is a reminder that the creator economy continues to reshape employment, career choices, and workplace expectations across Nigeria and beyond.

As she moves forward with her content creation journey, many fans believe losing her banking job may ultimately become the turning point that propels her to even greater success.
