Taiwo Awoniyi Earns Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sports Directorship
Nigerian international striker Taiwo Awoniyi has added another major academic achievement to his football career after earning a postgraduate diploma in Global Football Sports Directorship from the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Business School in the United Kingdom.
The Ilorin-born forward was part of the institution’s 2026 cohort and graduated from the programme on Monday, marking another step in his preparations for life beyond professional football.
Awoniyi had previously earned a degree in Business Management from Buckinghamshire New University in Wycombe, UK, in 2022.
His latest qualification focuses specifically on the business and administrative side of football, giving him specialised knowledge that could prove valuable if he decides to pursue a career in football management, sporting direction or club administration after his playing days.
Awoniyi Joins 2026 PFA Business School Cohort
The Global Football Sports Directorship programme is described by the PFA Business School as a postgraduate diploma designed for individuals interested in becoming sporting directors and taking on senior leadership roles within the football industry.
According to the institution, the programme covers complex and technical areas of football administration that have traditionally not been addressed through conventional training programmes.
The programme is coordinated by prominent figures in European football, including Andoni Zubizarreta, the former Manchester City sporting director, and Les Reed, former vice-president of Southampton FC.
The course is designed to prepare participants for the increasingly complex responsibilities associated with football leadership and sporting operations on a global scale.
Awoniyi’s decision to pursue the qualification highlights an interest in developing his knowledge beyond the pitch while continuing his professional football career.
