Wike: Kwara Governor AbdulRazaq Is a Gossip, He Calls My Name Every Time
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has continued his criticism of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq amid an ongoing political disagreement between the two politicians.
Wike accused the Kwara governor of repeatedly discussing his name and alleged that AbdulRazaq has been involved in a campaign against him.
The FCT minister made the remarks while speaking about his relationship with some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors during a media interaction in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Wike specifically mentioned AbdulRazaq and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as politicians he said were working against him politically.
According to reports of the media chat, Wike said the Kwara governor had been at the forefront of what he described as a campaign against him.
“Take for example, Kwara, he has been the one championing this campaign against me everywhere. Yes, I have confronted him too. I don’t talk about what I cannot defend,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor also alleged that AbdulRazaq had accused him of sponsoring political candidates against the governor’s preferred choices in Kwara State.
Wike said he had previously supported some politicians and argued that AbdulRazaq should appreciate the political platform he provided for aggrieved members of the APC who moved to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike and AbdulRazaq’s Political Disagreement
The disagreement between Wike and AbdulRazaq has attracted attention because both politicians are associated with the ruling political establishment, although they have increasingly expressed different positions on political issues.
Wike has maintained his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election while accusing some APC governors of working against him.
During his September 2 media chat, Wike confirmed that AbdulRazaq was one of the governors he was referring to when discussing politicians who, in his view, were more concerned about being seen as working for the President.
Vanguard subsequently reported that Wike described both AbdulRazaq and Uzodinma as being involved in a political dispute with him, while reiterating that personal disagreements would not change his stated support for Tinubu.
AbdulRazaq Yet to Publicly Respond to the Allegations
Wike’s accusations have added another layer to the political disagreements surrounding Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reports have also highlighted tensions involving AbdulRazaq and other political figures in Kwara, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki. The Guardian recently reported on the longstanding political rivalry between the AbdulRazaq and Saraki camps.
However, Wike’s allegations against AbdulRazaq should be understood as claims made by the FCT minister. They do not, by themselves, establish that the accusations are factual.
The dispute comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups positioning themselves for the coming electoral contests.
For now, Wike has made his position clear, maintaining that disagreements with individual governors will not prevent him from pursuing his stated political objectives.
The Kwara governor’s response, if any, could provide further context to the accusations and clarify his position on Wike’s claims.
