Former England midfielder, Fara Williams, has told Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel to keep Romelu Lukaku on the bench in Chelsea Premier League clash against Manchester City.
Williams believes Lukaku is ‘desperate’ and so should be omitted from Chelsea team to face City at the Etihad on Saturday.
A win for Thomas Tuchel’s side will help them keep their slim title hopes alive and close the gap to seven points.
But it would be a different case if they lose as City will now storm 13 points clear as they look to defend the title.
“I think Kai Havertz could be a better shout against Man City than Lukaku,” the ex-Everton star told Premier League productions.
“Lukaku looks like a player lacking confidence. He…is desperate to show he wants to be there.
“He was so desperate against Tottenham….Whilst he’s in that frame of mind, it might be better not to play.
“I feel like he’s not at the levels that Havertz is at right now and Chelsea need everyone at their best to beat Man City.”
Lukaku got into trouble with Chelsea fans and the manager after he granted a controversial interview to Sky Sports Italia, saying he was not happy with the club and wanted to return to Inter Milan.
Williams feels the Belgium international now wants to prove to everyone that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge, insisting that the 28-year-old may not be in his best frame of mind to lead the line in their crucial clash against Pep Guardiola’s side.
