NELFUND links student loan portal to schools for easy verification
In a bid to ease the verification process for student loan applicants, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, has begun efforts to integrate its platform with institutional portals, allowing for seamless verification of student information.
The Executive Director of Operations at NELFUND, Mustapha Iyal, disclosed this development during a sensitization program held at the University of Ilorin for higher institutions in Kwara State on Tuesday.
Speaking on the need for integration, Iyal stated, “One of the major challenges we face is verification
“To address this, we plan to collaborate directly with institutions by linking NELFUND’s activities to their portals.”
He added, “This will enable students to select their preferred payment method—whether through NELFUND, cash, or other means—right from their school’s registration process.”
According to him, this move will eliminate the need for students to visit the NELFUND portal separately, ensuring a smoother and more efficient process.
Addressing concerns raised by students from beneficiary institutions in Kwara State, Iyal assured that the Fund is actively working on solutions.
“We are committed to making the process seamless. We operate 24 hours and are always available for students,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the event, Umar Farouk commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for establishing the student loan initiative, noting that it will enhance access to higher education for indigent students.
“One of the President’s campaign promises was the student loan, and I am pleased to say it is now a reality.
“This initiative ensures that children from low-income backgrounds can pursue higher education without financial barriers,” Farouk stated.
