What Carrick has built in a short space of time is quietly impressive. After the dysfunction of the Ruben Amorim era, United look organized, mentally durable, and motivated. Bruno Fernandes is thriving at number ten with the freedom to influence the game rather than carry it. Cunha and Mbeumo offer pace and unpredictability on the flanks. Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro provide the engine and experience in midfield. The system is not flashy but it is functional, and in a top-four race this tight, functional beats flamboyant every time.

While Chelsea and Liverpool will be rotating squads and managing fatigue across multiple competitions next month, Carrick’s men can pour every unit of energy into Premier League results. That single-competition focus, across a 10-game unbeaten run, is fast becoming their most valuable asset.

Chelsea — Self-Destruction at the Worst Possible Time

Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Burnley on Friday evening at Stamford Bridge was not just two points dropped — it was a window into everything that continues to hold this squad back. João Pedro gave the Blues an ideal start, converting Pedro Neto’s cross inside four minutes, and from there Chelsea looked entirely in control. Liverpool are now level on points with Chelsea, just three behind United, with games in hand still to play. They also have a direct clash with United at Old Trafford on May 2 — a match that could essentially serve as a playoff for a Champions League spot.

The experience within Slot’s squad, particularly from Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Mac Allister, means Liverpool know how to navigate moments like these. They have done it before and they did it again on Sunday. Results like this, grinding out three points when the performance does not justify them, are what separate contenders from pretenders in the run-in.
