WILL THERE BE AN INCREASE IN FEE FOR 2026 UTME | DE?

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has downplayed the likelihood of an increase in the cost of application for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry.

In a weekly bulletin on Monday, the board said the exercise would largely maintain the same fee structure as the previous year.

This, the board noted, was in line with directives from President Bola Tinubu, conveyed through the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, “that its activities should reflect the administration’s human-face policies and consider the economic realities facing Nigerian families.”

The bulletin further read, “This clarification is provided to properly guide members of the public who wish to plan for the education of their children, as the cost implication for the 2026 exercise remains largely the same as that of the previous year.”

The board highlighted that it has not raised UTME or DE fees in the last nine years, adding that registration costs have even been reduced under the current administration.

Any future increase, JAMB stressed, would only occur if necessary to maintain the integrity and quality of the examination process.

“Despite this downward review of fees, the Board has continued to operate efficiently and prudently, resulting in substantial remittances to the Federal Government over the years,” the bulletin read.

WHEN WILL JAMB FORM BE ON SALE??

JAMB disclosed that the 2026 UTME form will be on sale from Friday, January 31, 2026, to Saturday, March 8, 2026, and urged parents and guardians to ensure timely registration.

The board also cautioned that the registration period would not be extended.

Candidates were particularly advised to verify that their National Identification Number details are accurate before creating their profiles, as it was warned that incorrect NIN information could lead to avoidable complications during registration and the examination.

“Candidates are strongly advised to first verify that their National Identification Number details are accurate and correctly captured before initiating profile creation.

“Incorrect NIN information could result in avoidable challenges during registration and the examination process.

“Candidates are therefore advised to take personal responsibility for the accuracy of their details from the start, as not all requests for corrections may be accommodated,” the bulletin read.
