JAMB Launches Decoy Website to get Cheats as over 200 Students sit for mock.

No fewer than 211,000 candidates across Nigeria sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Mock on Thursday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has confirmed

The mock exam, held in various accredited Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres nationwide, served as a preparatory exercise ahead of the main UTME scheduled to commence on April 25, 2025.

Speaking while monitoring the exercise at a CBT centre in Bwari, Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, said the mock examination was successful and results would be released on Friday, April 11.They will have the results tomorrow. We are already working on them. We want to compare with the second and third batches to ensure everything works perfectly,” Oloyede stated.

He explained that the mock UTME was not just for candidate preparation but also a strategic opportunity for the board to test new innovations and identify areas for improvement ahead of the main examination.

“As students are getting wiser, we are also getting better. We use this mock to try new strategies and take lessons from it,” he added.

JAMB, , in a bold move to combat examination malpractice, revealed that it has launched a decoy website to bait candidates attempting to gain unfair advantage through rogue platforms.

Oloyede disclosed that approximately 180 candidates have already been identified after paying money to the fake site in hopes of receiving leaked questions.

“We’ve opened our own rogue website. As of this morning, about 180 students have paid into it. Attempting to cheat is already an offence, and we will deal firmly with them,” the registrar warned.

“We are going to cancel their results — both UTME and Direct Entry. We want to send a clear message that exam fraud will not be tolerated.”

He cautioned candidates against registering by proxy or sharing their registration numbers, stating that the UTME is not a school-based exam.

“Some schools want to brag about high scores, even when the process is flawed. In one state, even the governor was misinformed and celebrated manipulated results. We’re fully aware of these tricks and are clamping down hard,” he said.

Professor Oloyede also lamented how some desperate candidates were being scammed by fraudsters who charge as much as ₦30,000 for fake assistance.

“Some of them are paying for something that will never work. When I look at those who have paid to our decoy site, I just smile,” he said.

He reiterated JAMB’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and integrity in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process, urging candidates to rely solely on their study efforts and stay clear of illegal shortcuts.

The board assured candidates and the general public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure a smooth and credible 2025 UTME.
