🚨 “I AM THE SACRIFICE… I AM YOUR WORSHIP?” — SMJ’S COMMENTS SPARK DEBATE, MANY BELIEVE HE WAS REFERRING TO DUNSIN OYEKAN’S POPULAR SONG
A recent teaching by gospel minister SMJ has ignited widespread discussion across the Christian community after comments many believe were directed at the lyrics of Minister Dunsin Oyekan’s popular worship song, I Have More Than a Song.
Although SMJ did not mention Dunsin Oyekan by name, many listeners quickly connected his remarks to the well-known lyric:
“I have more than a song… Today, I brought myself… I am the sacrifice… I am your worship.”
During his teaching, SMJ said:
“Jesus is my sacrifice, and that sacrifice was offered once for all men, for all time. Then somebody shows up, with due respect, and you are saying, ‘I am the sacrifice… I have more than a song. I am your worship.’”
He went on to question the theological implications of such lyrics, adding:
“You trust in yourself so much to think that you are bigger than Jesus’ sacrifice.”
However, SMJ was careful to clarify that his intention was not to attack anyone personally.
He continued:
“With due respect, revelation knowledge is progressive. This truth we’re presenting is love. It’s not dominance, it’s not superiority. Believers need to come to the age where what we sing is the truth because that is what will make the difference.”
The conversation became even more interesting after Apostle Lawrence Oyor reacted to the circulating clip with a comment that simply read:
“It’s a great manifestation of the Olodo Revolution.”
The remarks have since divided opinions online.
Some Christians agree that gospel lyrics should be carefully examined to ensure they accurately reflect biblical truth, arguing that songs shape theology just as much as sermons do.
Others believe the lyrics in question are poetic expressions of surrender, drawing from passages such as Romans 12:1, where believers are encouraged to present themselves as “a living sacrifice,” rather than suggesting anyone replaces Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice.
One thing is certain: the discussion has once again highlighted the growing conversation about theological accuracy in contemporary gospel music.
