The global artificial intelligence race just entered a new phase as SpaceX announced a massive $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, one of the world’s fastest growing AI coding startups.
The deal, which will be completed entirely through a stock swap, is expected to become one of the biggest technology acquisitions in history and signals Elon Musk’s determination to dominate the future of artificial intelligence.
Cursor, developed by AI startup Anysphere, has become a favorite tool among software developers worldwide. The platform uses artificial intelligence to generate, edit, review, and optimize code, helping programmers work faster and more efficiently. Since its launch in 2022, Cursor has experienced explosive growth, reportedly surpassing $1 billion in annualized revenue.
The acquisition comes only days after SpaceX made history with its blockbuster Nasdaq debut. Investors responded enthusiastically to the latest announcement, sending SpaceX shares soaring and pushing the company above tech giants such as Amazon and Microsoft by market value, making it the fourth most valuable company in the United States.
Industry analysts believe the move is aimed at strengthening SpaceX’s AI ambitions following its earlier integration with Musk’s AI company, xAI. The addition of Cursor could significantly improve SpaceX’s ability to compete with leading artificial intelligence firms such as “openai.com” and “anthropic.com” both of which have become major players in AI assisted software development.

Speaking about the deal, Cursor CEO Michael Truell described the partnership as a major milestone in the company’s mission to build the world’s best AI powered coding platform.
