Port Harcourt Clinic Under Investigation After Police Raid
A local clinic on Stadium Road, Eldona Clinic, is at the center of an ongoing police investigation following a raid by the Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad on June 12, 2026.
According to statements from police, the operation uncovered allegations of newborn trafficking and falsified death reports. Authorities claim mothers were told their babies had died, while the infants were allegedly trafficked. Police also say an embalmed infant’s body was found in the Chief Medical Director’s office. Officials allege it may have been used to deceive grieving mothers or to help women fake pregnancies. These claims remain allegations and have not been proven in court.
Chief Medical Director’s statement
Dr. Elizabeth Obot, the Chief Medical Director, was detained during the raid. In preliminary statements to investigators, she reportedly admitted to operating without a license and to involvement in the schemes.
She also stated her intent was to help families struggling with infertility. Dr. Obot has not entered a formal plea and the matter is still under investigation.
Wider investigation
Police say the case may be linked to a larger syndicate and could relate to unresolved DNA disputes and family separations. Investigators are treating it as a priority and are reviewing records from the clinic to identify other possible victims. Authorities have urged anyone who gave birth at Eldona Clinic to contact the Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad to provide information or DNA samples for verification.
Public advisory
Police are advising expectant mothers to remain vigilant during labor and delivery and to confirm the identity and credentials of all medical staff. They warn that traffickers may use various methods to gain access to newborns. The Nigeria Medical Association and the Rivers State Ministry of Health have not yet released an official statement on the facility’s licensing status.
The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time and all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
If you or someone you know gave birth at Eldona Clinic and have concerns, contact the Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad through official police channels. For support, families can also reach out to local health authorities and counseling services.
