British broadcasting cooperation BBC has released their Premier League team of the season on their official Twitter account and it has caused a large uproar with many disputing their selections.
The Premier League may be suspended but BBC has already published their preferred team of the season and it takes into account players contributions over the course of the season.
The major controversy is the inclusion of Manchester United Midfielder Bruno Fernandes who many believe hasn’t lasted long enough to even be considered.
The Portuguese international was signed from Sporting Lisbon for £62M and has no doubt breathed a new lease of life into an otherwise lacklustre United team and has culminated in victories oflver Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Champions and derby rivals Manchester City at the Etihad.
Fernandes had 5 five goal involvements with 2 goals and 3 assists in 5 games for United in the Premier League with many believing this is not nearly enough to warrant a place in the season’s XI over the likes of Leicester city’s James Maddison and Wilfred Ndidi, Aston villa’s Jack Grealish, Manchester city’s Rodrigo, Liverpool’s Fabinho, Chelsea’s Matteo Kovacic, or even his teammate Fred.
The XI is dominated by Liverpool players of course on the back of their stunning record breaking season having lost just one game, an abysmal 3-0 loss to Watford in March that started a purple patch just before the season was disrupted.
Liverpool dominate with 6 players making the cut with two representatives from Manchester city and one from United.
Many feel Liverpool’s goalkeeper Allison becker’s spot wasn’t merited over the likes of Sheffied United’s Dean Henderson and Leicester city skipper Kasper Scheichel with Allison injured for majority of the season. While also there is not spot for Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Leicester’s Jaimie Vardy despite being the top scorer in the league with 19 goals scored.
The BBC lineup looks like this….
