Military in gun battle with ESN in Akwa ibom

• Tension as Military forces engage  in heavy gun battle with Eastern Security  Network in Akwa ibom.

The issue of insecuriy in Nigeria lately seems to be getting out of hand. Based on the problem of insecuriy, the IPOB decided to form a security outfit known as the ESN. Since the security outfit was formed, they have been confronted by the men of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police on several occasions.

Based on that note, it was today reported that the members of the ESN and the men of the Nigerian Army are engaging each other in a gun battle in Akwa Ibom State.

Residents of the area lamented that since the assault began in the early hours of today, they have not been able to carry out their normal day to day activities efficiently. They further revealed that tension has since gripped the area where the gun duel is said to be going on, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of the State.

The joint forces consists of aircrafts from the military, officials of the Nigerian Army, and men from the Nigerian Police Force who were said to have stormed the area and engaged in a heavy duel with ESN members. Interestingly, the Minister of Niger Delta, and former Governor of the State hails from the local government where all this is currently happening.

This is really uncalled for. I still don’t think that fighting the IPOB or the ESN will bring back peace to Nigeria. The best thing the government needs to do now is to have dialogue with the IPOB members and look for a way to resolve all this. If things are property done, I dnt think there will still be any need for all these agitations.
