Paris Saint Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe has been handed the Ligue 1 golden boot ahead of Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder for the 2019-2020 season despite the season ending early.
The French international Mbappe has been handed the golden boot despite tying with Ben Yedder on 18 goals to be crowned top scorer in the French top flight for this campaign. It was confirmed last week that Paris Saint Germain had been crowned Ligue 1 Champions for the 2019-2020 season based on “points-per-game basis “as the season was ended abruptly due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mbappe was joint leading scorer ahead of Monaco hitman Ben Yedder on 18 goals scored but Ligue 1 confirmed on its official website on Thursday that Mbappe would be recognized as the Top scorer for 2019-2020 as his goals were scored from open play whereas 3 of Ben Yedder’s goals were penalties. Mbappe’s goals-per-game ratio was also superior, his 18 coming in 20 games, while Ben Yedder scored his in 25.
Olympique lyon striker Moussa Dembele finished third with 16 goals while another PSG talisman Angel di Maria finished as the Ligue’s most creature player with 14 assists.
Mbappe now has 2 Ligue 1 golden boots to his name as he was also crowned top scorer last season as he scored 33 goals in 29 leagues games as PSG cruised to the title and also rivaled Lionel Messi in the race for the European Golden shoe last year. His goalscoring exploits have not gone unnoticed with Real Madrid credited with almost an eternal interest in him and some even thinking he’s destined to end up at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Premier league leaders Liverpool are also one of the club’s credited in an interest in the French international as they look to shore up their attack
The news may come as a big blow to Brazilian teammate Neymar who looks to be completely outshone in his 2 seasons at the club now . With Mbappe emerging as PSG’s go to man for inspiration as of late
