FUTO appoints new female Vice Chancellor.

The governing Council of the

, Imo State, has appointed Professor Nnenna Oti as the new Vice Chancellor.

Nnenna Nnannaya Oti was born on 15 November 1958, in Afikpo North, Ebonyi State South East Nigeria. She received her first degree at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, where she graduated with (first class honors) in soil science. Nnenna Oti further obtained a master’s degree in soil science where she specializes in soil biology and biochemistry from the same University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She also obtained a post-graduate diploma from Katholic University Leuven, Belgium, in irrigation engineering (Distinction). Nnenna Oti returned to her Alma mater (FUTO) to bag a PhD in soil science and environmental conservation.

Professor Nnenna Oti held the position of the head of department, soil science and technology for the three times. She was also Dean, School of Post-graduate in the University. She was also the immediate past chairman, Gender Policy Unit. Professor Nnenna Oti has over 34 years experience in the academics, she has also worked as a consultant to various government and private sector. Professor Nnenna Oti has 65 academic papers, edited a handbook, 50 public lectures and over 10 technical reports for the federal government.

The new vice chancellor, until her new appointment, was the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics.

She emerged tops with 75.5 points to beat six other candidates. Her closest rival was Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie who scored 69.7 points.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. John Offem, announced the appointment of the new vice chancellor late last night after a day-long selection and interview of the seven candidates that scaled through the initial selection process. She was appointed as the 8th substantive Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Owerri(FUTO) by the governing council of the institution.
