Viola Davis, a superstar American actress, has received the EGOT.
For her memoir “Finding Me,” she took home a Grammy Award on Sunday, Jan. 5. It was for best audio book, narration, and storytelling recording.
”I just EGOT!” she shouted from the stage as she accepted the trophy.
An EGOT is a person who has achieved the extremely rare feat of winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award throughout their career. In achieving the accomplishment, Davis is the 18th individual.
The renowned actor has won two Tony Awards, most recently in 2010 for Fences. She also has an Emmy from How to Get Away with Murder (2015) and an Oscar from Fences (2017).
”Oh, my God,” she said.I wrote this book to honor the 6-year- old Viola, to honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything. And it has just been such a journey.
Some very well-known people have won in the audiobook category, including Michelle Obama and former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jamie Foxx, and Mel Brooks, one of the other 17 members of the EGOT club, were among Davis’ fellow nominees this year.
Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Rita Moreno, Whoopi Goldberg, and Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber are among the other EGOT winners.
