Alex Iwobi, the Super Eagles and Everton midfielder, has expressed his concern about the negative impact of playing on bad pitches during home games on the team’s performance. This issue is particularly relevant given that the Nigeria squad failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was defeated by Guinea-Bissau in one of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Although they managed to secure an away victory in the return leg played days later, the poor pitch conditions at home have continued to be a source of frustration for the team.

Iwobi suggested that having a dedicated base for the team, with a consistent standard of facilities, would help address this issue. He acknowledged that Nigeria is a big nation, and there are multiple potential locations for the team’s base, but having a single, reliable location would make it easier for the players to prepare and focus on the task at hand.
Despite the team’s recent struggles, Iwobi remains optimistic about the talent and potential of the Super Eagles. He emphasized that the team is still young and has much to learn, but with time and patience, they can continue to grow and develop into a force to be reckoned with.
