Hackers gains access into’s Payment JAMB loses over 10 Million to internet hackers. Some Cyber criminals who hacked into JAMB’s portal have been arrested.

The board’s registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, made this known on Tuesday, April 13, adding that the criminals stole over N10 Million.

According to Oloyede, the money will be recovered from the arrested culprits after which they will be handed over to EFCC for prosecution.

Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says hackers have gained access to the agency’s intranet site and altered the profiles of the ad hoc staff

.

The JAMB boss made this know on Tuesday, April 13, while addressing newsmen in Abuja, The Cable reported.

It was gathered that Oloyede said over N10 million which was set aside as allowance for the ad hoc staff was diverted by the hackers.

JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said the board lost more than N10 million to internet fraudsters.

He, however, said the cyber criminals were investigated, tracked and nabbed in Kaduna, Nasarawa and Abuja.

“We did not ask anyone to apply to be an ad hoc staff on the site, we had already chosen them through recommendations from various agencies.

“We only created the site just to pay them via a code that was assigned to them.

“However, these suspects gained access to the site, deleted the original account details and phone numbers and inserted theirs.

“We paid N20,000 each for accommodation per night and N100,000 for flight tickets, depending on the location of each staff to go and work for that period.

“The payments ranged from N200,000 to over N300,000 per person. Yet, these suspected fraudsters after gaining access to the sites also inserted details for their family members.

“They didn’t go to partake in the exercise but ignored the messages sent from our domains”.

While narrating how he carried out the crime, the alleged kingpin, Zubairu, said a friend of his, known as Samuel Tanko, who is now at large, introduced him to the website and supplied him with a code to apply as a JAMB ad hoc staff when they met at Saltee Cybercafé in Takum where he resides.

He however noted that what he did was not an application but a successful alteration of the account details and phone numbers of the original owners of the code listed on the site, who were posted across the country by JAMB.

It was gathered that some victims of the fraud include a staff of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Mr Babangida Mohammed and one Fatima Mohammed, among several others.

Zubairu confessed that he lured a least 12 people into the crime, some of whom are his family members, adding that he received over N400,000 diverted into his account.

One of the alleged culprits, Nasiru Mohammed, said he received the sum of N220,000 payment.

He however pleaded that they be forgiven while promising to reimburse the money if given enough time.
