Nollywood actor Ray Emodi reveals burnout pushed him to quit acting for music, apologising to fans for his earlier retirement announcement.
“This is a video I never thought I would make in my life, but life is cr@zy. Life has ups and downs, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is that we all get it right.
I stopped acting towards the end of last year after announcing it, and I want to explain why.
I stopped because I was tired. I have been acting since 2017 till last year, appearing in about 300 productions, including feature films, short films, and TV series, with no proper breaks or vacations.
After years of continuous work, I became exhausted and needed time away to rediscover my love for acting.
I studied acting in school and even have a Master’s degree in Acting for Film, so it is something I take very seriously. But I overworked myself and reached burnout.
Waking up one day to tell you guys that, “Hey, I’m not acting again, I’m doing music only,” that switch of role wasn’t right. It’s like… no be wetin they write for container dey inside container.
It’s almost like I swindled you guys. So I apologise for that.
Someone even said, what is he feeling like? Maybe he’s feeling like Michael Jordan. No, it’s not that way.
Now I am back, but I will do things differently this time. I will not overwork myself again. I will only take roles that allow me to stay creatively satisfied without getting exhausted.
My goal has always been to leave a positive impact through my craft, not just to make money. So I apologise to my fans, and I promise to handle things better moving forward…”
