News that the Central Bank of Nigeria had authorized commercial banks to collect old N500 and N1000 notes from Nigerians has been refuted.
It was widely reported earlier today that the top bank had instructed all commercial banks to gather the old currencies. The apex bank referred to the story as being “false and unapproved” in a statement issued this evening.
