Lebron James Breaks NBA’s All-Time Scoring Record

Twenty seasons after his debut, LeBron James has surpassed NBA star Kareem Abdul-total Jabbar’s of 38,387 points to become the league’s all-time leader.

He scored 38 points on February 8 against the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Los Angeles Lakers in a 130-133 loss.

With 10.9 seconds left in the third quarter, James made a step-back jump shot to break Kareem Abdul-previous Jabbar’s record of 38,388 points scored in a lifetime.

Prior to the game, the 38-year-old has been dealing with an ankle issue that he treats on a daily basis. But James persevered despite his discomfort and accomplished a historic feat in the Crypto.com Arena.

James, who was in front of cameras, addressed the crowd after breaking the record in the late third quarter. He said, “I thank you guys so much for allowing me to be a part of something I’ve always dreamed about.”

Kareem, who had been watching from courtside, was then approached by James, who then gave LeBron the basketball as a symbol of passing the baton and cementing his legacy:

James overtook Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time top scorer, according to a statement from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

“Congratulations to LeBron on breaking one of the most hallowed records in all of sport…it’s a towering achievement that speaks to his sustained excellence over 20 seasons in the league”.

James added: “To the NBA, to Adam Silver, to the late, great David Stern, I thank you guys so much for allowing me to be a part of something I’ve always dreamed about”.

He went on to say “Man, everybody that’s been a part of this run with me these last 20+ years. I just wanna say thank you so much because I wouldn’t be me without y’all”..
