Boxer Amir Khan Banned From All Sports For Two Years Over Anti-Doping Rule Violations

Amir Khan, a former British boxer, has been handed a two-year suspension from all sports after testing positive for a prohibited substance, ostarine, following his match against Kell Brook in February 2022 in Manchester. The UK Anti-Doping organization revealed that Khan, aged 36, accepted the anti-doping rules violation but denied intentionally taking the banned substance. An independent panel upheld Khan’s argument during a hearing in January.

UKAD clarified that ostarine is an anabolic agent and is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency in all sports. Khan’s outcome against Brook was also invalidated by the panel. Khan announced his retirement in May of the same year after the match.

Khan won the WBA super-lightweight title in July 2009, defeating Andriy Kotelnik on points, and the IBF belt two years later by stopping Zab Judah. In May 2016, he moved up to middleweight to challenge Canelo for the WBC belt but lost to a sixth-round knockout. In April 2019, he was stopped by Crawford in the sixth round of their WBO title fight. Finally, in February 2022, he faced Brook in a grudge match, and Brook defeated him in the sixth round.
