Antonio Conte, the head coach of Tottenham, has departed from the club, ending his managerial tenure three months before his contract expires. Cristian Stellini will assume the role of acting head coach with Ryan Mason serving as his assistant.
Conte’s departure came after his vehement criticism of his players’ “selfish” and unprofessional behavior following the team’s 3-3 draw with Southampton last Saturday. The Italian also appeared to indirectly criticize the club, claiming that Tottenham’s inability to win was a recurring issue.
Conte traveled to Italy the day after the match and showed no intention of returning to work, leaving his assistants to oversee the team’s training during the first half of the international break.
The club announced Conte’s departure via a statement, noting that they achieved Champions League qualification in his first season as head coach and thanking him for his contributions.
