Only Chrisland School Ikeja Was Shut Down – Lagos State Govt Clarifies

According to the Lagos State Ministry of Education, only Chrisland High School in Ikeja is impacted by its order to temporarily close one of the Chrisland Schools; all other schools run by the owners are unaffected.

Remember that the state government issued the directive over the weekend in response to the contentious passing of Whytney Adeniran, a student at the school. Last Thursday, February 9, the 12-year-old passed away while competing in interhouse athletics at the school.

The deceased student’s mother claims that she allegedly died after collapsing at school. Although it has not been confirmed, there are rumors that the deceased was electrocuted while participating in inter-house athletics.

The state’s Ministry of Education’s Assistant Director for Public Affairs, Ganiu Lawal, stated in a statement issued on Monday, February 13, that the clarification was required to allay the concerns of parents and the general public regarding the false claim that the school disobeyed the State Government’s order to close.

For the avoidance of doubt, only Chrisland High School Ikeja, where Whitney was a student until the unfortunate incident, remains closed as directed and the school authority has complied.  The regrettable death of Whitney, as reported, is undergoing investigation by the police and relevant agencies of the Lagos State Government. The findings of the investigation will be made public as soon as it is completed.

However, Chrisland High School, Ikeja, will remain temporarily closed to students and staff to allow unhindered investigations and afford all stakeholders including parents, students, staff, and friends of the deceased, time to grieve. the statement read in part
