The Lagos State Government has withheld the donations made to the viral amputee hawker after discovering that she was untruthful about her condition.
The hawker by name ,Mary Daniel, who claims she sells sachet water in Oshodi,Lagos was dfound by kind Nigerians after her story was shared online and went viral.The single mother claimed she lost a leg in an fateful accident that killed all passengers, including her parents, when she was still a teenager.
She added that life hasn’t been easy and she dropped out of school to fend for herself by hawking on the street.She said during her interview that she is an orphan with a child and an aged grandmother to fend.
Her story melted the heart of Nigerians and different people made donations of about 25 Million Naira to her.This made the state government to get involved to prevent criminals from taking advantage of her goodwill. However,on this course the state government has now discovered variances in her story.
It was discovered that her father is still alive and that she was indeed amputated from birth, not as a result of any accident at all and It was gathered that Mary Daniel started was threatened from those who staged her story to reveal the truth unless she gave them their share of the money.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu handed her over to officials of the social welfare for investigation in the presence of the police and some Kogi leaders, who attested her father was alive and the whole thing was staged stating that there were lies and irregularities in the story she gave
“It was also discovered that her presence in Oshodi was staged too. Those working with her played on the intelligence of Nigerians to get donations for her ,Presently, the state government is preventing her from accessing the money” the source added
“The government does not want a situation where it will become a trend for people to cook up stories, manipulate the people to get donations and in a bid to regulate fraud scheme,” Odumosu explained.
