The police in Kano State have arrested a 29-year-old fake police officer, identified as Yusuf Abdullahi, but known as Abdullahi Sarari, of Gano town, Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano State.
Spokesman of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this while parading the suspect at the command’s headquarters in Kano.
He said the suspect, who has been in police wanted list, was arrested after defrauding three persons within Kano metropolis.
“We received complaints from three people of different addresses, within Kano metropolis, that someone with police uniform, with name tag “Abdullahi Sarari”, went to their shops, made purchases of goods worth One Hundred and Four Thousand Naira (N104,000:00), collected their bank account details and claimed to have transferred the money to their various bank accounts.
“Though they did not receive the alert, they trusted him and allowed him to go due to his uniform and collected his phone number. Since then, he has not been picking up their calls after they realized the money was not transferred to them,” He said .
Kiyawa said based on the report, the Commissioner of Police directed the team of Operation Puff Adder to trace and arrest the culprit.
He said the team swung into action and succeeded in arresting the suspect after sustained efforts and prolonged follow-up.
Kiyawa said based on investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime he was accused of.
The suspect, however, said his passion for joining the police after he tried many times and failed in exams made him to procure the uniform.
