Arsenal teenager Bukayo Saka has criticised his team’s performance in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Arsenal’s Champions League ambitions were shattered by the loss.
Mikel Arteta’s side had suffered their second heavy defeat in four days, following a 3-0 loss against Tottenham.
Arsenal are now two points behind Spurs heading into the final day of the season after those two losses.
Spurs only need a point against relegated Norwich to ensure a top-four finish and Champions League football next season.
“We lost every duel and we weren’t able to play out correctly from the back,” Saka stated after the loss in Newcastle. The overall performance was dreadful.
Obviously we are all incredibly disappointed. Technically it is not over but we have made it very difficult for ourselves. Because we had it in our hands, it is such a disappointment not to get Champions League football and that is why we are all so gutted.
“Yeah of course we have a young squad but it does not really matter about your age – when you have these opportunities you have to take them. The last two games we have had those opportunities to win and put ourselves in a great position but we could not do that.”
