Nigerian students have reacted to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) postponing it’s Yearly SSCE Exams.
According to the Council Head of National office (HNO), Mr Patrick Areghan while announcement the official release of results of the 2021 first series of WASSCE for Private Candidates on Tuesday 6th April in Lagos State, The effect of the Covid-19 pandemic is still much felt in the education sector as regards conducting O-level exams including NECO,JAMB,WAEC,NABTEB ETC.
The HNO noted that the entire education Calendar has been distorted and may not be possible to conduct the Yearly Examinations for Secondary Graduating Students as scheduled.
Let me use this opportunity to disperse rumours, being peddled about by some people regarding the conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates, 2021.
“The effect of the COVID-19 is still very much felt in the education sector and this has taken its toll on the academic calendar in the country.
It is, therefore, not going to be possible to have the examination in May/June this year.
A convenient international time table for the conduct of this examination will soon be released.
“To this effect, all stakeholders are, therefore, requested to keep their fingers crossed until they hear directly from WAEC,’’ the WAEC boss said.
He then appealed to all the school principals and proprietors to keep to the stipulated timelines for the enrolment of candidates for the examination.
According to him, it is important to re-emphasise the role of Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) in the computation of candidates’ results.
“All schools are advised to get this aspect of the registration process right, in order to make the entry processes seamless.’’
Most Nigerian students in the Secondary schools have reacted to this development saying clearly that the postponement of the examination by the WAEC body isn’t favourable as this would increase Preparations as well as collide with other exams which they might be interested in.
One of the School student named Michael Nwokoro stated this as Naijamixed staffs collected views, ‘ The postpoment will do more harm than good to our exams’.
JAMB should definitely be conducted first but WAEC before Neco since most higher institutions don’t give permissions for students who would use awaiting results.
Most of us currently in Secondary school’s would have a hard time doing all these as we need time to rest and prepare for the next exams ahead, Micheal added.
Other students on tweets reacted to the development saying that it would worsen matters, the body shouldn’t just conduct the exams and have rest.
