Police in Bauchi have launched an inquiry into the crisis that broke out on Friday in Katanga Community, Warji Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
SP Ahmed Wakil, a police spokesman in Bauchi State, said on Saturday in Bauchi that some enraged teenagers set six houses and seven shops on fire in the village on Friday.
He further stated that some people of the community were injured as a result of the attack.
He added that the assault was in response to a 40-year-old female employee of the local government council allegedly posting a profane comment on social media.
“Police deployed troops to the community, and they were able to bring the situation under control,” Wakil said.
Mr Umar Sanda, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the matter, according to him.
Sanda also urged the general population to remain calm and go about their lawful business without fear of intimidation, according to Wakil.
He emphasized the need of parents and guardians keeping a close eye on their children, especially teenagers.
Sanda also urged religious leaders, community leaders, and seniors to speak to youths about the need of maintaining peace in their communities. (NAN)
