Strong earthquakes that struck the Turkey-Syria border region have killed more than 11,000 people, and rescue workers are still looking for survivors.

11,236 deaths have been reported overall, with 8,574 in Turkey and 2,662 in Syria, according to officials and medical personnel.

Rescue teams from over 24 nations have joined the local emergency services, and the entire globe has committed assistance to Turkey and Syria at this difficult moment.

While rescuers waited for funeral trucks to pick up the remains, they were spread out side by side on the ground in the Turkish city of Malatya and wrapped with blankets.

The number of fatalities is expected to rise higher, according to aid organizations and emergency personnel, as many people are still under the rubble and rescue efforts are hampered by the frigid weather.
