Finally Italian League Seria A is Set for Return.
The Italian Top flight has been billed to return on the 20th of June as confirmed by Italian sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora.
The Italian Serie A has been suspended since March due to the ongoing global covid 19 pandemic as Italy has been one of the countries hit hardest by the outbreak in Europe with multiple players testing positive to the virus.
Sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora announced earlier this week that the league was closing in on a return, while Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) president Damiano Tommasi said players are happy to return to action as long as it is safe to return and now they have been given the green light to return.
Following a meeting with Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, it was decided that he top flight should return to action next month after clubs were given all clear to resume contact training this month
“Football was going to restart when we had the right safety conditions and when the CTS would give the go-ahead to the protocols,” Spadafora said.
“The league resumes on June 20 – I have already consulted with prime minister Conte.
I hope we can complete the Coppa Italia in the week from June 13 to 20. It would be a signal to the benefit of all Italians, given it’s the competition shown on public service [television].
“My wish is coming true for the whole world of sport to start again at the same time. We deny the story that I had any reservations about the world of football.”
In a statement Italian Football Federation (FIGC) president Gabriele Gravina said: “Football’s return represents a message of hope for the whole country. I am happy and satisfied, it is a success that I share with the sports minister and with all the federal members.
“Ours is a project of great responsibility because it invests everything the professional world of Serie A, B, C and also the women’s Serie A ”
Serie A giants Juventus are currently top one point clear of second placed Lazio with Inter in a close third nine points adrift of the top with 12 games remaining to be played.
It was also announced that coppa italia semi finals games were to be held on June 13 with serie A set to follow the following week.
The league is set to return with the following fixtures :- Atalanta vs Sassuolo, Hellas Verona vs Cagliari, Inter vs Sampdoria, Torino vs Parma
Juventus are set to face Milan in Turin in the second leg after the first ended in a 1-1 stalemate while in the other game Napoli lead inter 1-0 having defeated them in the first leg at San siro
Juventus are aiming to win the Italian Serie A for an 8th straight time having won the past seven seasons
