This year marks the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, and Billboard and Vibe are ranking the best rappers of all time.
Before announcing the final top 10, the magazine first unveiled its list of the Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time.
The editorial staff determined the rankings based on the following criteria: body of work/achievements (charted singles/albums, gold/platinum certifications), cultural impact/influence (how the artist?s work fostered the genre?s evolution), longevity (years at the mic), lyrics (storytelling skills), and flow (vocal prowess).
While the list includes female MCs like Lil? Kim (No. 31), Lauryn Hill (No. 30), and Missy Elliott (No. 19), Nicki Minaj is the only woman in the top 10.
According to Billboard, she has unquestionably paved the way for the next generation of female MCs while also creating a legacy whose influence extends far beyond the hip-hop community.
Jay-Z was hailed as the greatest rapper of all time, with a three-decade-long career. He received this ranking due to his longevity, the range of his achievements, and the impact he has had on hip-hop.
