Dwayne Johnson, an American actor and former wrestler, has explained how he surprised Adele at the Grammy Awards.
Last Sunday, February 5, Grammy host Trevor Noah made Adele blush by introducing her to Dwayne Johnson.
In December 2021, the 34-year-old British singer said she would “really cry” if she ever met the 50-year-old actor and WWE legend.
The Rock is a person who I’ve never met, but I think I would truly cry, the singer admitted to YouTuber NikkieTutorials.
She added that when she was younger, she was his biggest wrestling fan, and that once, when he was unable to attend her One Night Only performance in Los Angeles, Johnson sent flowers instead. She admitted that when she received the flowers, “I nearly fell off my chair.”
She blushed when Noah decided to surprise her at the Grammys by presenting her to Johnson. The Rock recently spoke candidly with Variety and explained how he managed the surprise.
Johnson said that he had known Adele was a fan for long time and continued, “We wanted to do something special for Adele.”
‘I know that she is a very big fan of mine and has made that clear publicly many times,’ Johnson said.
‘But I?ve got to tell you, I am a huge fan of hers, as well ? her music, her journey, her openness and directness in how she speaks. I?ve always admired that about her,’ The Rock admitted.
When Johnson confirmed he’d be attending the Grammys, producer Ben Winston pitched him the idea of surprising Adele at the top of the show.
‘We were trying to figure out something to do that was going to be fun and surprise her, and we had kicked around ideas all week,’ Johnson admitted.
The secret to pulling off a surprise like that is to really maintain it that way. Adele was truly astonished at the time, and the Grammys and I went to great pains to ensure that,” Johnson added.
After the unexpected introduction, he was able to speak briefly with her and her lover Rich Paul, and he said it was a “wonderful surprise.” He also said it was an added pleasure to present her with her 16th Grammy that evening for Best Pop Solo Performance.
‘And talk about the universe meeting our friendship halfway: I get up onstage and I open that Grammy envelope and it said ?Adele.? So that?s why I was able to say, “Get up here best friend, Adele!”‘ Johnson said.
‘It was such a special night. And she?s such a special iconic brilliant inspiring artist who has inspired a generation and who will continue to inspire generations to come. I love that woman. We had a really great time tonight. I think probably the best part about it is she?s just cool ? and I had never met her before,’ Johnson admitted.
