Dr. Mphikeleli Shikwambana, a 35-year-old medical doctor, reportedly shot and killed his 32-year-old wife, Dr. Tshimangadzo Muofhe, who was also a doctor at the Provincial Hospital in Polokwane, before taking his own life in Polokwane, South Africa. The bodies of the couple were discovered by a family member at Thornhill Estate in Polokwane on Monday, March 27, 2023. According to Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, preliminary investigations suggest that the couple had a fight earlier in the day and in the afternoon.

The police have opened cases of murder and inquest, and the motive for the incident is unknown, but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.

The Limpopo Health Department issued a statement expressing condolences for the tragic loss of its medical doctors. Health MEC Dr. Phophi Ramathuba and acting HOD Dr. Dombo described their deaths as a significant loss to the department, noting that Dr. Shikwambana had been appointed as the overall head of the Donald Frazer Hospital earlier in the month, while Dr. Muofhe had been a dedicated and committed doctor in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of Pietersburg hospital. The department urged people experiencing domestic challenges to seek assistance and resolve their issues instead of resorting to taking lives.
