Mikel Arteta Agrees New Improved Contract With Arsenal
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly agreed a new and improved contract with the Premier League champions, bringing an end to months of negotiations over his future at the club.
According to a report by the BBC on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Arteta has reached a final agreement with Arsenal to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.
The Spanish coach’s existing contract was due to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season, with discussions over a new deal continuing for several months. The agreement now means Arteta is set to remain in charge beyond his current contract.
The exact length of the new contract has not been officially disclosed. However, the reported agreement is expected to keep Arteta at Arsenal into at least his 10th year as manager.
Arteta was appointed Arsenal manager in December 2019 after previously working at the club as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The 44-year-old has since overseen Arsenal’s development into Premier League champions. The club ended its long wait for a league title under Arteta last season, adding further significance to the decision to extend his contract.
Arteta’s Salary Set To Increase
The new agreement is also expected to include a significant improvement to Arteta’s financial package.
Reports indicate that his current salary of around £10 million per year will be increased, while as much as £5 million could also be available to him through performance-related bonuses.

Speaking about the contract negotiations, the Arsenal manager said:
“They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”
His comments came as he entered the final year of his previous Arsenal contract.
Sky Sports reported in August that Arteta had said he expected to sign a new agreement and that there was no reason for supporters to be concerned about his future.
Arsenal Continue With Arteta Project
The new agreement represents a continuation of Arsenal’s long-term project under Arteta.
Since taking charge in December 2019, the Spaniard has overseen a significant transformation of the squad and the club’s competitiveness in domestic and European football.
