The day I took a pregnant neighbor to the hospital.
3:45am, She knocked on my window and said “my water broke”
I was about asking her wetin concern me concern your water, abu m onye plumber, before she added “please accompany us to the hospital”
I had mixed feelings that early morning. As in eeh I felt respected, valued, flattered and e bursted my brain that of all the people she could have gone to, she chose me. Don’t worry, igaghi aghota the feeling, because ibu onye mgbu 😂😂.
I made a post that day around 2am telling how a neighbour woke me up to help him recharge his light. You can imagine the odd hour.
I actually heard him because aburo m a deep sleeper…small noise wakes me up mana I didn’t want to answer so I pretended not to hear the knock.
Then this guy did ihe gbaara m ara…this mugu bido na agba m torch na bed and shouting my name because my curtain di open. By 2 A, M ooo. Jesus! Imagine say na ebu m Nwa that day and we were…… anyways forget, let’s not deviate from the main story because time adiro.😂😂🤣
So enwerozi m choice, I had to wake up to attend him but not without giving him ezigbo serious warning. Even extended the warning to other neighbors through our WhatsApp group, maka echi.
I fought to go back to sleep but sleep no gree come, so I started writing and few hours after I dropped the post, I got another knock na my door.
I was prepared to change am for the person because I have been up since 1am begging for sleep to come and just when I was finally dozing, you are coming with your own wahala, but then on getting to my door I heard a female voice say “Oga Biko it is mama Ada’s Sister( not the real name), she asked me to call you.
Just when I was about asking her what for, the pregnant neighbour now came closer and told me that na her water broke (mmiri Nwa), that I should please come and escort them to the hospital.
Ngwa let’s pause small, let me tell you why I felt good even though I was loosing sleep.
There are about 12 flats in that compound minus my one room apartment, and only two of those 12 flats di occupied by single guys, the rest 10 buzi family people….
Now this woman came down from second floor, hapuchaa her fellow women she would have called in such situation, oburu Virgin dika m ka the lady biara kuoro aka.😊 No no no, why you wan doubt my virginity Status now.🤣🤣 ?
If you still don’t think I have reasons to feel good about myself then ibu enemy of progress, because to me that actually mean I was doing something good na that compound and certainly I wasn’t living a careless lifestyle as a bachelor for someone to trust me with such huge responsibility.😊
Sorry for that short break, oya let’s continue.
So I said to her “Madame I don’t have a car, how do we get to the hospital by this time of the day, oya wait let me call one of these guys nwelu Motor” and she replied me, “don’t worry, the hospital di na next estate….and I prefer to walk as form of exercise, that way the nurses won’t ask me to be climbing steps when I get there.
It was my first time of hearing that pregnant women needs to do exercise for the baby to come out even when they are already in pains. Chineke thank you for not creating me a woman, maka chi Umunwanyi na a’try, especially na labour room.
Well, I walked with them till we got to the hospital, wished her save delivery and left. On my way back, one of the security guys we passed along the road called me to congratulate me thinking she was my wife, but I told him she was my neighbour and na the husband nno away(outside the country), so she called me to accompany her and he replied “then you must be a good guy”
Chai, munwa bidozie blush-ba🙈😂.
Walking home around 5am that day I was feeling very proud. I said I will surely add what happened that day na my CV….a very valid reason for me to increase my groom price, so that anybody that is coming for my head in marriage will know what she is paying for.😂
I finally got home around 5:17am and when I woke up, I went to check on her and her beautiful girl.
Yours Faithfully,
Celebrity Chef,
Nwa Mama Ogoo na-ere ukwa,
Onye odi na aka..
