In Kano State, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 352 suspects and confiscated 2.1 metric tons of illegal drugs. Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the NDLEA Commander in the state, revealed this in an interview with journalists on April 6th. The arrests and seizures occurred between January and March and included 208 males and 44 females. The seized drugs consisted of 955.304 kg of cannabis sativa and 1,225.05 kg of Codeine and Tramadol. In addition, the authorities found 25g of cocaine, 17g of heroine, and 52g of methamphetamine.

The commander noted that the primary challenge facing the agency in the state was persuading communities to expose those who deal in illicit drugs within their midst. He stated that educating the public about the dangers posed by drug users and traffickers was essential in ensuring a drug-free society. Idris-Ahmad urged the general public to provide helpful and timely information on drug traffickers to the command to prevent them from endangering society.
