A pre-school in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina was attacked on April 5, resulting in the deaths of four children and injuries to four others. The assailant, identified as 25-year-old Luiz Henrique de Lima, arrived at the school on a motorbike and launched an attack on children playing in a park behind the school. The victims were identified as Bernardo Pabest da Cunha and Enzo Marchesin Barbosa, both four years old, Bernardo Cunha Machado, aged five, and Larissa Maia Toldo, aged seven. One child remains in serious condition, while the others were taken to the hospital for treatment. Lima was arrested soon after turning himself in at a state police station. The incident prompted the suspension of classes in the city and a 30-day mourning period. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva condemned the attack, while the State Board of Criminal Investigations will lead the investigation.
