Fans of Alicia Keys can be rather fervent.The Grammy Award winner, 41, strolled through the crowd on while playing at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver. One spectator grabbed her face and kissed her on the cheek.
With the caption: Hollywood Unlocked posted a video of the occasion “#SocialiteSoundOff: Damn, lady, we too adore this song! #Socialites, was this fan’s cheek kiss on #AliciaKeys inappropriate?”
When the overbearing female fan grabbed Keys by the head and kissed her on the face, she was singing her song “Empire State of Mind.” Keys was shocked and little unsteady at the time. The Keys musician who was mentioned in the piece commented in response.
When Keys and JAY-Z performed “Empire State of Mind” at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Lil Mama (real name Niatia Jessica Kirkland) jumped the stage in the middle of their performance.
Keys claimed she was unaware of what happened.”Basically, I remember absolutely nothing,” she told Complex last year. “I think I was so focused on performing. Because when you perform, it’s a lot. You gotta hit it. You gotta nail it. You gotta kill it. It has to be perfect.”
Kirkland, 32, has claimed that despite numerous attempts to apologise to the celebrities since the incident, no one has ever responded.
Keys claimed that the event is “water under the bridge” in an appearance on The Morning Hustle from last October. Keys responded, “Of sure,” when asked if she had forgiven Kirkland.
“That was then. You know, she’s from New York, too,” she said at the time. “You know, I think she really felt the energy of the record, and she loved it, and she couldn’t hold herself back. Look, this is what my music does to people. What can we say?”
