Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilicueta, fooled Palmeiras players into thinking he would take the decisive penalty in the Club World Cup final.
Romelu Lukaku had given the Blues the lead before Cavalcante Veiga drew his side level from the penalty spot.
The game went to extra time and looked set to be decided by a shootout before referee Christopher Beath awarded Chelsea a contentious penalty three minutes from full-time for another handball.
After Beath reversed his decision having consulted the VAR pitchside monitor, Azpilicueta picked up the ball and placed it on the spot.
The Spanish defender was then surrounded by Palmeiras players who tried to put him off his stride, while the eventual taker, Kai Havertz, was ignored and given space to compose himself.
Havertz kept his composure and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to clinch victory.
When asked why he grabbed hold of the ball, Azpilicueta said: “I knew what they were like.”
Havertz had also scored the winning goal in last season’s Champions League final against Manchester City.
