Channels tv apologizes to NBC.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on Tuesday said Channels Television has apologised over its infraction of the broadcasting code.

NBC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Franca Aiyetan, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Abuja.

She explained that the commission letter to Channels TV was a regulatory instrument to check the excesses of the station. She also made it clear that the letter wasn’t meant to close down Channels TV nor sanction the station but to draw the station’s attention to the breach of broadcasting code. The letter was meant to ask Channels TV why it gave credence to an organization that have been proscribed by the Nigerian government, adding that the spokesman of the organization made inciting statements that could cause unrest.

Nigerians also weren’t happy with the NBC when it was previously reported that Channels TV was suspended with a fine of N5m. The commission has now confirmed that the station has apologized for breaching the broadcasting code.
