A return date has been mooted for a while but recent positive Covid-19 tests involving several clubs keep pushing the date back and forth but now the English football’s governing body has unanimously decided on a return date after a video conference meeting involving all 20 Premier League teams
Aston Villa vs Sheffield United and Manchester City vs Arsenal have been confirmed as the first two games to be played after the restart
The two fixtures were originally postponed before the break due to the EFL cup final between Aston villa and Manchester City which city won to lift the trophy in February. Every premier league club will have played 29 games each after these two fixtures have been played and then subsequent matches will follow
English football has been on hiatus since March after Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta tested positive on the eve of his side’s clash with Manchester City at the Etihad and several other Premier League stars have since tested positive with others in isolation.
England has been one of the most affected countries by the virus with over 30,000 cases causing the FA to suspend the league indefinitely. This comes as a good news to Champions elect Liverpool who are looking to win their first league title in over 29 years.
